Friends, colleagues, acquaintances, and esteemed strangers…
After its world premiere in Montreal in September 2019, the Danse Mutante project went on tour. (Something that was slightly upended by the onset of the pandemic… No matter, a number of nice engagements are on the horizon for the coming years.)
Due to the nature of the lives of freelance artists, the performers who brought this creation to the stage will not always be available for the next stages of the journey.
Therefore, MAYDAY is looking for two special artists–two rare gems!–who can take over (dancers with acting abilities, actors with high physical stamina, or super-versatile circus performers) …
For those who saw the performances, the complexity of the task is obvious!!!
For those who didn’t see it, here’s something to give you an idea…
The work is very idiosyncratic, very rich, very demanding. Physically and emotionally. Moreover, it was tailor-made for Francis Ducharme and Riley Sims. At the present moment, the team here at MAYDAY is trying to convince themselves that it is indeed possible to pass on these four incredibly different universes to two new performers.
We would like to invite those very few with the required audacity… recklessness… and courage… to come into the studio and meet the “mutations” created by Mélanie Demers (Montréal), Ann Liv Young (New York), Kettly Noel (Bamako), and Ann Van den Broek (Rotterdam). We are very interested to see what new forms these works will take on in the bodies, hearts, and souls of other artists.
We are looking for two men, or two persons self-identifying as men, and we are especially interested in candidates from diverse backgrounds.
The task demands immense versatility and numerous abilities:
- Improvising with text
- Improvising with choreography
- Understanding French and English
- A sense of humour
- A sense of tragedy
It also requires you to be able to form a deep and seamless connection with another person.
It’s quite a challenge! So if this adventure catches your fancy… please be more than welcome to send:
- Your curriculum vitae
- A cover letter
- A link to a short video (or more if you so wish)

Deadline: October 28, 2020
