NEWSLETTER 12 - FEBRUARY 2013

Just back from Haiti and with only one month before Goodbye returns to the stage at Usine C on March 20, 21 and 22, Mélanie Demers took some time to share some of her thoughts, talk about her sources of inspiration, reveal some of her doubts, and discuss her close relationships with collaborators in a new video directed by Xavier Curnillon.

GOODBYE AT USINE C ON March 20, 21 AND 22, 2013

Goodbye finally returns to Usine C following its world premiere at FTA 2012. The highly anticipated performances will be followed by an international release in New York. During the two weeks leading up to these performances, Mayday will be in residence at Usine C where it will use the walls to develop another version of Goodbye. Mélanie Demers will take advantage of her time in this centre for multidisciplinary performance to refine her work alongside her valued and talented collaborators.

Goodbye will then be off to New York for the 27th edition of New Dance Alliance’s Performance Mix Festival. Brianna Lombardo, Chi Long, Jacques Poulin-Denis and the choreographer will perform the work on April 8 and 10 at the Flea Theatre, in the Soho District. Then excerpts from the work will be presented on the morning of April 11, followed by a discussion facilitated by Robert Tyree and featuring Jaamil Olawale Kosoko, co-director of the Anonymous Bodies collective and founder of Philadelphia’s The Philadiction Movement.

THE MANY COLLABORATIONS OF MAYDAY

For our great delight, choreographer Mélanie Demers continues to venture into the world of theatre. It began last September when she created a notable piece of movement for Robin et Marion, presented at Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui. Now she is working on Mommy, a new piece by Olivier Choinière to be presented on February 19 to March 9, 2013, at the Théâtre Aux Écuries. Finally, Mélanie Demers has also accepted an invitation from the Les Petites Cellules Chaudes collective to provide choreography for the iShow, to be presented at Usine C on February 21 to 23, 2013.

In April 2013, Mélanie Demers will return to Munich to work on the second phase of her collaboration with German choreographer Katja Wachter. They will present Very, Very Delicate Cycle on April 26, 27 and 28, 2013 in the Schwere Reiter space, in Munich.
